Final Thoughts:
Courtney:
This book was like Sex and the City meets Eat Pray Love, and this movie was pretty much just a less enjoyable He’s Just Not That Into You. As far as adaptations go, it would be impossible to give it anything higher than an F. Aside from a few names, the entire plot, character development, and locations are completely different. I’m not really sure if the person adapting the novel actually READ the novel. Three cheers for Leslie Mann, who gave this film a touch of likability and humanity.
Ethan:
This gets an “F” on multiple levels from me. The movie is nothing like the book at all so it doesn’t really feel like an adaptation. Also, I really disliked both the book AND the movie so it gets a resounding “F” overall. I did like Leslie Mann’s character as well as Jake Lacy as the boyfriend but they were not enough of a redeeming factor to make the whole experience less miserable.
just looking at the vastly different cover art for each, you can tell it’s going to be a bad adaptation!
